I started my
first carving in 1984 (a relief carving) and after completing
it I didn't carve any more until 1992. Since then it has
been pretty steady and I have tried just about all the kinds
of carvings and a lot of subjects, I've hunted ducks over
my own decoys and walked with my own walking sticks and
have enjoyed every minute of it but I keep going back to
the old ways, just a knife and a block of wood, to me it's the
true form of carving. Don't get me wrong, I love carving period,
regardless of the styles and I'll keep doing all of them. I
have entered many carving shows and county fairs and have collected
my share of awards but it's being with other carvers that
has helped me learn the art of carving. I think a person
learns something new every day. I have also been privileged to
have had some of my carvings shown in Chip Chats and Wildfowl
Carving Magazines over the years. All of my carving
has been done in Osakis, MN and now my home town of Shenandoah,
IA.
