SHARPENING SIMPLIFIED

Now a second edition with improved close-up photos

Having trouble getting your carving tools razor sharp? In Sharpening Simplified, Everett Ellenwood shows you a simple proven method to get your carving tools properly contoured and sharp each time you sharpen them.

An award winning carver, with more than 30 years of carving experience, Everett Ellenwood has taught carving classes for two decades and was an independent distributor of pre-sharpened carving tools for 17 years.

Over the years Ev perfected a unique, easy to learn, sharpening technique which he taught to hundreds of carvers. This process was so well received that his students kept telling him “you need to share this”!

Professionally made in a studio, this 110 minute DVD is divided into nine color coded chapters: I-Introduction, 2-Sharpening Position, 3Sharpening Stones, 4-Carving Knives, 5-Gouges / Veiners, 6-Flat Chisels, 72’V” Tools, 8-Micro Tools, 9-Conclusion.

Each chapter of tool sharpening starts with Ev showing you what each tool should look like when it is properly sharpened and why; then he actually sharpens the tool to show how to achieve a sharp and properly contoured tool. Comments accompany each process as he shows you the steps.

It is recommended you initially view this DVD in its entirety to get the whole picture.

Excellent video for the details of a proven system. I have been sharpening for over 65 years and changed to adopt Mr. Ellenwood’s ways with very good results. My difficulties had been sharpening gouges and v-parting tools, and very small carving tools; relearning to do this correctly was the best use of the DVD for me. I set up to follow the details of his advice completely, having all of the supplies such as diamond stones and white gold from Pinewood already. It was of benefit to watch the DVD twice before starting and reviewing each section as needed. An example of a small but important change for me was setting the stone or diamond plate at an angle to the edge of the bench, now my gouges are shaped correctly all the way across the cutting edge. I hesitated at the price at first and was very wrong; it is worth twice that and more.
    Thank you.
